The Bitter better

The following article was published (with slight modifications) in 'Reconnection' - IBA Iqra Society's official Magazine under the name "Takabbur- A common disease"
Last year, some sessions were arranged by Iqra Society on for Purification of the hearts series. Two of its talks were on “Curing arrogance” and “Curing hatred” For this purpose, I had the task of inviting the girls to the event.

The new eyes

A few days back, I was waiting for IBA point in the morning. It was the exact same place I waited everyday. Everything around me was same. I was looking around me and right in front of me was a tree. It is a completely bent tree. I had known and seen the tree since I was a child. And yet, until that day I had not realized or thought upon the fact that how was the tree so bent, yet so firm in its place?  Of course the answer immediately popped up that it is the roots must be spread in such a way in the ground that it supported its lean.

The Hidden message

I wrote an article for Hiba Magazine which got printed last January (Jan 2010). I told my sister-in-law, Saima about it a few days back and she encouraged me to put it on my blog for everyone to read it. So here it is...

I look up at the stars on the sky. I am amazed. The dark blanket of the sky which scares most of us when it is in its solitary becomes an enchanting gaze of the eyes when jeweled by the glittering stars.

Coatable coats

Funny how sometimes pages and pages full of words and sentences fail to impart even a single message while sometimes a few beautifully strategically placed words can change the entire essence of a person. I have always been a big fan of learning the golden words whenever and wherever I could. It has been a beautiful journey and as I rewind my life, I can always see myself in search of this treasure consciously and unconsciously.

The big picture

Oh did you just see Tania? What was she wearing today? So Out of fashion, like Oh my God! I would never even wear it while sleeping! oh that french braid doesn't suit her at all. Looks like she is having a bad hair day..

Welcome, my friends, to your own sweet world.

Everyone of us has different version of what the definition of entertainment is. Some of us would want to play video games, some of us would want to watch a movie, some of us would want to read a good book and well the list goes on. However, a lot of stuff that we do in the name of entertainment comes under the category of haraam, for example listening to songs or watching movies that are inappropriate for watching with family etc.

The Real Thing.

"Real" is such a subjective word. What is real to you may not be real to me and vice versa. In my own life, I have been taught different meanings of what "real" is.

When I was in Lyceum, my accounts teacher in my A1, before revising on the concepts of double entry told us in a jovial manner " back in the 90's, coke was considered to be the real thing"
Just so that you know, you can view it here

On a tree, far far away in a forest was a nightingale. Lonely and upset, it looked hither and thither as darkness started encompassing the earth with the setting of the sun.

What made it upset, one may ask. was it the loneliness or was it the darkness? Nay, it was the longing to reach home. And the diminishing light was making the task impossible.

The light

Imagine a world of darkness. A world where there are no greens or blues or yellows but only black. Darkest of the darkest black. Where there is no sunshine after rain and no morning after night. This is not any unrealistic world. But a world which can be visited anytime by just closing our eyes…

Discover me.

Open the doors of wisdom and meet me.

You know who I am?

Can you guess?

Maybe you already know me.

Or Maybe you have always been trying to find me.

Or Maybe not.

God has made us one of His best creations. If we look around us, there are so many beautiful wonderful things created by God, but truly, we have been blessed by being made the best.
If we look at the human body, it is one of the most complicated systems. when I was in primary school, each student had to go to assembly and say an astonishing fact. When I had my turn, my teacher asked me to tell everyone that, Laid end to end, the blood vessels in an average human body can stretch 2 times around the earth.

Broken Mirrors

Mirrors are truly fascinating. They give us an exact replica of not only ourselves but also each and everything in our surroundings. We trust the replica in the mirror so much that even though we have never seen our own faces in reality, yet we always believe the image as our own, whenever we stand opposite to it. But the funny part is that we never fail to believe that any of the things in the mirror are real. We never believe we can get of any of the objects that the mirror show. Because we know that it is nothing more than an illusion. We know that there is nothing beyond the empty images. For, once the mirror is broken, all lies will shatter

the forgotten treasure.

Today I had my first class on “philosophy, logic and ethics”  Philosophy is one of the things I had been craving to study ever since I came to IBA. I don’t know why people dislike such subjects. Philosophy means “love of wisdom” and how many of us don’t want to be wiser everyday?  To say  I don’t want to study philosophy is to say I don’t want to think and I don’t want to grow mentally.

Of rocks and people

I was reading Suarah Baqarah today. Came across verse 74 which really made me wonder how beautifully Allah  describes ideas.

"Thenceforth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of God. And God is not unmindful of what ye do" (verse 74, Surah Baqarah)
